The Judith Blacklock Flower School

Judith, the founder of the Knightsbridge-based Judith Blacklock Flower School, has been teaching floristry professionally for more than 30 years. She’s best known for her classic flower arranging skills and her cutting-edge contemporary floristry. Judith’s school is one of the few in the UK to have been accredited by the British Accreditation Council (BAC) and also by the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD).

Judith offers a huge range of in-person workshops and classes. You can take an evening or Saturday masterclass on flower arrangement, book a team-building workshop with your colleagues, or learn how to become a professional florist in only two weeks. So, whether you’re a beginner and want to learn more about flower arrangements as a hobby, or whether you’re a professional looking to take your skills and your business to the next level, The Judith Blacklock Flower School has you covered. And if you can’t attend in person, Judith even offers diplomas and wedding flowers courses and qualifications online!

The Judith Blacklock Flower School and Brigit’s Bakery Mother’s Day Special Bus Tour

Of course, the team here at B Bakery has nothing but admiration for Judith and her work, so here we are – extending an exclusive invitation to you and your mum to attend a table centrepiece masterclass at The Judith Blacklock Flower School in Knightsbridge. Judith and her team will teach you the essentials of flower arranging in a small and intimate class. We’re confident you’ll walk out feeling like a pro, as Judith’s system of teaching is fail-proof! Plus, you’ll get to take home your beautiful creation and make friends and family super-jealous! Judith will also share tips on where to buy your flowers and on how to recognise the best ones to pick.

We absolutely love this testimonial that appears on Judith’s website:

‘No one can leave the Judith Blacklock Flower School without their spirits singing!’ – Heather Jobling.

And that’s exactly how we want you to feel! But the fun doesn’t stop here, because, after the masterclass, you’ll be picked up by a Brigit’s Bakery vintage Routemaster bus to indulge in an exclusive Mother’s Day afternoon tea whilst driving through the streets of Central London.

Mother’s Day flowers

Did you know that the Mother’s Day tradition originated in 1907? Back then, US-born Anna Jarvis sent 500 white carnations (her mum’s favourite flower) to every mum at her local congregation on the anniversary of her mother’s death. And the world has been celebrating Mother’s Day ever since.

But which flowers should you give your mum on Mother’s Day?

As it turns out, the official flower for Mother’s Day is red carnations. And that’s handy because carnations are one of the longer-lasting cut flowers you can buy, meaning your mum can display them on her windowsill for longer! However, popular flowers given to mums on Mother’s Day are lilies, orchards, tulips, roses, and irises.

If in doubt, here are a few tips for you:

  • If your Mum is very traditional, give her roses. Although you may want to avoid red roses, which are traditionally associated with romantic love. So go for a lighter red or a deep pink instead.
  • Is Mum trendy? Does she love fashion and bold colours? Give her an orchid.l And while you’re at it, pick pink for elegance and femininity. (Plus, as an added bonus, they’re dead-easy to look after).
  • Do you like peonies? These flowers smell great and make a fantastic arrangement – they can grow quite large, so when you put them in a bouquet, you can certainly get a beautiful centerpiece out of them. Plus, they come in shades of white, pink, red, and sometimes even purple.
  • And if you’re going to go for tulips, did you know that different colours have different meanings? Purple is for royalty. Pink is for affection. White is associated with cheerfulness, but also the chosen colour to deliver a flowery apology.

Did you know flowers of different colours convey different meanings?

Although a lot of people think that pink is the traditional colour for Mothering Sunday flowers, in reality, brighter and bolder colour combinations are becoming more and more popular. So if you want to tell your mum you love her, give her dark-red flowers. If you want to wish her well, white carnations are a symbol of love, peace, tranquility, and good fortune. And who doesn’t need more of that?!

Isn’t that interesting? Bet you didn’t know that so much meaning and symbolism can hide behind that bouquet of flowers!

And that’s precisely why, this year, together with The Judith Blacklock Flower School, we want to give you and your mum an exclusive chance to find out more about flowers.

But let’s find out more about Judith and her school.
